big thanks go to Adams dad who helped me get this car through the mot at his garage..... it went for a pre mot last week, needed rear brake pipes to the rear axle..... Dean made me a new set but I bodged one installing it so at the mot today, it was weeping.... fair play to Dean who made a new one there and then and fitted it for me to get the car through the test.
My plan for this car is to get the rest of it up to the standard of the engine bay.... it's got a few scuffs, scratches and storage dints from 20 years of storage. The priority was to get it re-commissioned and mot'd then sort out the cosmetic stuff.
Looking forward to taking it to the RRG.... it's been 2 years since I've had a rotang on the street.

Great news Ian and well done, it's a pity I can't be there to see it. So I hope one and all enjoy RR.

that's so handy you can get a repair done there and then, with N.Ireland its government centers and you have to get a retest
and go back to your mechanics.

although i could take a trip to a garage in england and get the car tested as MOT stands over here.

i understand how you feel ian, be good to get back on the road. i got under my rx8, wire brushed rust treated surface
rust off the rear axle, front not so bad, then some matt black paint and looking bang tidy now :)

changed the engine oil, and car so much smoother, quicker to start when warmed up and more economical.
i also rolled over 101000 miles, was funny seeing 101010 on the speedo, but original engine and still going well.

I'll be surprised if this car makes it to RRG tomorrow...... 20 years off the road, mot'd at the start of this week, taxed today but no real time to shake it down and flush out all the problems that will inevitably arise once the car starts clocking up some miles.
Took it for a 10 mile drive this morning, gave it a good thrash and once I got it home, checked under the bonnet and found an oil leak from the turbo heat shield, which also doubles as the oil feed intake to the turbo. I stripped that off, made a new gasket and then found that the stainless braided oil feed pipe was badly damaged, the rubber pipe inside was twisted and swollen and looked like it could burst at any moment. At that point I nearly gave up on taking the car tomorrow but stuck with it and cut the damaged section out of the pipe and re-attached the end. Not what I wanted to be doing at 4.00pm this afternoon with a 100 mile round trip ahead of me in the morning.
Took it for a test drive and gave it another good thrash and no leaks but now it's developed at whistle that comes and goes with the engine revs .... it's more notable at low speeds and the car now sounds like a fighter jet taxiing..... dunno what it is, if it's serious or not but I suppose I'll find out tomorrow one way or another..... I've dug out my breakdown cover info just in case
