Hi
I took my car for its MOT today and while it was left running the temperature started to rise. Not had a problem with overheating in the past but havnt left it running for any length of time.
Suspect the viscous fan is shot. Not noisey and no play. Does anyone know how to test and if proved faulty I would want to keep the car standard and replace the fan.
Does anyone have a good one for sale.

Thanks

I have some viscous fans spare if you need one. How well they work or not is moot, but should be able to find a decent one. Let me know if you test yours and it's FUBAR, yeah?
My fan clutch is officially toast. I had replaced the thermostat as it wasn't opening as far as I liked but temps throughout the warm weekend at Goodwoood were up and down and needed constant monitoring. Nothing tragic but still concerning.
I managed to test the fan clutch immediately after a track session and it should have been reasonably resistant to spinning by hand. Nope ... that's a fail then so there's the culprit. That's my first viscous fan fail since 19 ... , errr a long time ago.
Anyone got a working one or maybe just reccommend a decent electric fan instead?

I went through 5 different viscous fans when I first bought my car and none were any good, the car sounded like a flymo...... gave up in the end and just went electric.... miles better, just fit and forget
