Hey from Pennsylvania

Post by 83RX7Copper »

Hi,
We (it's actually my better half's RX7), are owner's of a 1983 RX7 with a 12A engine. We are located in Western PA and the third owner of this Florida car. We are hoping to get some answers so that we can get the car up and running and get to enjoy it this coming summer, 2015.

Thanks for the welcome. To be more specific, we are located in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Now, as for the first issue I'm having--- not sure where to post this -- I cant get the car to start. When we brought it home last summer, the Cat converter was shot. We bought a new one and a new muffler,. I then found out that there are two Cat converters on a stock rx7. So we bought that. I installed them and also found that someond had unhooked the THROTTLE SENSOR. I reinstalled it and plugged in the cable. I also found that whatever is connected to the grey solinoid had broken off. I gingerly glued the part back on with JB Weld and it appears to be working when i blew into it. The car will not start/run now. I havd since unplugged the throttle sensor and even unhooked the cat, but i cant get it to start. I drove it home, so it did run before??? Any suggestions?????

I'm not much good on this one because I didn't know there were Cats on any 1st generations.

At least here in the US there was a pre-cat and then into a Catalytic Converter, then onto the muffler. What I don't get is, if it was causing back pressure and wouldn't let the car start, why now that I unhooked it, it still won't fire up?

WOOOOOHOOOO!!!! I got it to start/ idle!! Thanks for the post i read about taking the plugs out cleaning out the engine and then putting the plugs back in and squirting some oil and starter fluid in there! The real test will be if it starts up as easy tomorrow.
