re wiring headlights from scratch

hi all,
i am having some trouble, i have a dedicated circuit car (s1 rx7) with an aftermarket race wiring harness, my auto elec has run into some issues wiring the headlight motors and he doesn't want to damage them figuring it out, can anyone tell me the minimum i need to wire them to make them work, the boxes under the dash are not marked and the old wiring was dodgy to say the least when i got the car hence the re-wire, i have found a factory wiring schematic but it's not the most helpful source of info,
so i have the following questions,
what tells the headlight motors to stop once they reach the full travel up & down?
is there a box or relay under the bonnet that i need to fit? (pic perhaps?)
would anyone have done this before and have a basic diagram that might help?
does anyone know of someone in Melbourne that has done this that i can take it too?
any help would be appreciated.
