Well after 30 years the drivers door lock has given up. So today I decided to change it over with the passenger side lock that still works. I took off the drivers door card, I've had this off once before to oil the lock, removed the lock this is the side that has a light in it so when you touch the handle it comes on so you can see the key hole in the dark. This stopped working some years ago.

I then took off the passenger side card, to my knowledge this has never been off and removed the lock.

With both locks now removed I noticed they are handed but by removing the circlips, see photo below the arms can be changed over. It is then a quick refit of the locks and now I have a working drivers door lock. This only took an hour or so.

I have decided to leave the door cards off for a while as I want to add some more waxoil inside the doors and do a bit of work on the tops of the door card vinyl.

I thought they were handed and non reversible...... good info there Dibs, I didn't realise you could just change the arms ..... did you fix the light?
Ditto on considering putting central locking in as well while you've got the door cards off.... dirt cheap to buy and a doddle to fit.

I only wanted to remove the top corners of the plastic membrane so could not get in to chk the bulb but I did refit the the light fitting. As for central locking it was never fitted or an option when new so not going there............... well that's my excuse ........

Today I decided to refit the door cards, but first sort out the top vinyl as it had started to come away from the top of the door card

The glue had become very sticky to the touch, so I peeled the tops back and cleaned the surfaces to use evo-stick it back down.

The finished job now re fitted.

Time for a test drive, trouble is the inside of the car stinks of waxoil as I re oiled the inside of the doors.

that looks good Dibs... it's one of those jobs that I keep meaning to do to mine but never get around to...... warm weather helps as well... it'd be difficult to get it that smooth in the cold weather.

That's right Ian I did let them warm up in the sun first ............ also the glue off goes quicker so you can't hang about.

Who could believe these doors have come from a 30 year old youngster - fantastic condition which gives a very good idea on the condition of RXY full stop.
Something to be proud of owning a car still with original paintwork too. th:
