new owner rx7

Post by brenlixnaw »

hi all just bought a rx7 1981 bought yesterday and drove 2 1/2 hours home with no problems apart from 1 front brake seemed to be sticking a bit after any braking but got home all well anyway very happy so far the cars going to need a few minor and major bits doing to make it my long term car will definitely need a drivers door but the good news is the engine gears clutch all seem great any way ill get round to introducing myself better after ive been to work today also its a 1981 red rx7 that's not been modified at all as best i can tell, ill also get some unedited photos up it looks really good from a camera view so ill stop looking any closer until after the summer later if wife gives me a bit of time ill strip brakes down and (tinker) :D

hi my old Series 1 was reg number KYO 508X and came from Richard Knight cars in London, so it looks like your car was registered there at about the same time.

thanks all if by chance the reg was familiar to any one it would be nice to know a little about the car before i got it but a more pressing point is where the brake master cylinder connects to the boost the two nuts are tight but fluid leaks out when brake is pressed is there a gasket or seals id be able to get or may it need stripping and cleaning
now this is only one of my early problems but i deal better working slowly on one issue at a time it stops reality kicking in :D

Yes there is some history on KYO.

First seen 2009 in Tintagel, Cornwall. Then moved about the West Country (Cornwall, Devon), until it moved to West Sussex in early 2011.
The guy there advertised himself as a Ferrari Mechanic.......possibly a lot of Purest Red crept in there. (I've noted it as colour 'Red was Green'- it has been correctly revised to 'Red' though on DVLA site - my memory is failing a bit about the 'Red was Green' bit).
It looked like a very nice restoration at that time.
By the end of 2011 it was in Dublin......no sightings since then.

You'll know it's a 1981 car (1st generation Series 2 car in our speak). Around 150k around the end of 2011.

Hope that helps.

well im amazed that was fast s(c)
the fella i bought it from says he bought it in dublin 3 years ago drove it home to galway and then parked it up with intention of driving occaisionaly but never did and only sold it now as storage unit was being sold
millage is 149000 so id say all seems right the engine seems very sweet
weber carbs need a bit more tweeking but its already tigking over sooth and accelerating well
dont know why but battery died the morning after i got it home
but as its leaking brake fluid im not in too much of a rush to get on road
im glad to have some history as i was prepared for the worst but the bit i have seems good
also i note your from south yorkshire im from a little city call sheffield originaly :D
