Hello, I'm Kristi from Boise Idaho. Recently bought a 81 Rx7. I think that I was scammed a little with this deal.
This is the 3rd one that I have owned. First one being over 20 years ago. The car was running when I bought it, but as soon as the engine is turned off or if it dies, then I should sit back and wait an hour before it will start again. When I look at the engine, there are quite a few plugs that aren't connected to anything. Is that normal? Not to sound really ignorant, but there are even plugs from under the steering column that aren't connected. At this time the car is dead, nothing when you turn the key. The battery is good, because when the fuses are over rided the wipers work, and headlights also. I guess I'm looking for some advice on this, because I'm am going to know everything I can about this car before I'm done. Is there a good diagram of electrical plugs?

Hi Kristi,
Is the instrument panel coming alive when you turn the key? You don't say.
There are quite a few unused electrical plugs all over the UK car. I assume same on USA car.
The library on here should help but otherwise the Haynes manual from UK has a good selection of USA electrical diagrams for the Series 2 car.

Re: Boise,Idaho
Hello Kristi,
Welcome to the Forum, as the car will start & run I am sure the problem will be a fairly easy fix.
It would be worrying if it would not run at all. There is a large depth of knowledge on the Forum so I am sure someone will know, but I think we will need a bit more information on the symptoms when it will not start:-
1. Will it turn over ie does the starter motor turn?
2. As Dave asked, are the Dash lights on?
3. Does the car overheat before it stalls?
4. When it is running will it idle OK
If you can put up some pictures as we love to see other cars,
regards Pete

Re: Boise,Idaho
Thanks so much guys. Now the car did run. But after someone might have put the positive on the negative and vice versa when trying to jump it, now it just sits. Nothing. But a friend took wire to fuse area and hooked it on battery and I have headlights and wipers. Now that is only when the wire is hooked up. Could the main fuse (OEM) be blown? Finding someone to attempt to work on it is almost impossible

Hey, Kristi. Welcome to the forum aye
. I may be wrong. But it sounds to me like the standard fusible links are burnt out. I believe the FC style fuses can plug right into our fusible link box. I've read that people tend to use 2x 30 amp and 1x 60 amp for the main.
They look like this. Although probably cost a lot cheaper at a local hardware shop nearby to your home

Hopefully that works as it'll be nice and cheap!
