Fixed brake lines in wheel arch and flexible lines to front wheels want renewing IMHO. Certainly fixed lines look like an MOT fail to me.

Discs look like they could use renewing.

Bump on this as I've never had to source any so I don't know what aftermarket is best. It will depend on you intended use I suppose.

Dependant upon how much work you can or want to do yourself, I'd be looking at cleaning the underside of the body together with all suspension, brake lines/ metallic elements with rotary/hand wire brushes and/or soft pads to remove general debris & crud - this will prove the condition of the exposed substrate. Then I'd coat the cleaned surfaces with POR15 (colour to suit individual taste), this shall provide a strong outer coating which shall grossly slow down corrosive action. Then I'd do exactly the same on the other side/interior. This would reduce costs and facilitate keeping the car in as built condition.
Brake lines might simply need cleaning, coating and lubrication rather than replacement, brake discs look is reasonable condition from the photographs but if unsure I'd source an expert to access and then possible cleaning and maintenance and finish with fitting new brake pads.
The overall cost for the above is mainly time along with consumables and replacement parts but a shed load of joy and pride lasting a whole lot longer afterwards.

Those little Brillo pads that come with the soap stuck to them work a treat on metal brake lines.

Girling or other known brand flexi lines will be fine. Just be sure you get metric fine M10x1.0mm.

make sure you get the correct flexible for the car... just because the threads fit doesn't mean the flexibles will fit a s3.... the bezels at the chassis fixing points may well be different and if they are, the flexibles won't fit.

Time for an update after much time spent and seeing as I will keep this car for a while, I wanted to freshen as much as I can up so some new parts have been bought and will be fitted after the bottom is cleaned up and rust protected. I pretty much got a whole new bush kit for the car and after looking at it properly a few days ago, I am glad I did. Though they are fine, knowing they will be all new is going to be a great addition. The new discs I found cheap through a Germany company and cost less than 100 euro for all four, though it did take 2 months for delivery and the priced went up after I got them. The brake lines, new brake gasket kits and ball joints maybe be overkill but whatever I take off and is still good, I will clean and keep as a spare.

The mechanic where I got this up on the hoist had a good poke around and no real problems. Like mentioned already on here, wire brush and getting dirty to clean it up and seal it. Next job is the wheel arches where I will surely find some needed welding but so far so good.

I found a cut wire under the gearbox.....can someone give me some more info on it please?

The last photo, is my favourite as I finally found a great place for the rubber spoiler, I think this is the best place for it!

More than likely the reverse light switch in the back of the gearbox.

It looks pretty solid mate. You've got your work cut out for you there with all those new parts!

OK...Finally I got around to starting. High pressure hose clean underneath. Next wirebrushes, steelo pads and drill with wire head to clean the surface rust.

























































Now the really dirty work starts!
