Very good basic for making the car perfect in future. Why you tape the rear wing hole? No aerial?
Some extra points for red stripe
Hope you can have fun next week and ride your car before the snow is coming.
It's always the best in return for your services.

Correct, the non-oem aerial was stuck in the "up" position, so had to go. Tape is a temp fix, I have a replacement aerial on order.

Now, to the more important issue.

The MOT result is in.......................

:( Fail V(o

The good news is, nothing major :) Two issues to sort;
1. Handbrake efficiency below requirements. I should have really picked this up, but the car has been on the level for all the time I've had it, so didn't notice :-[ Hopefully an easy fix. Main brakes are fine and evenly balanced across each axle.
2. Corrosion near the driver rear suspension mount (on the sill). However, it doesn't look too severe, so hopefully an easy welding job.

Ian Mothersole phoned me this morning about 10am asking if he could tag along to the MOT test, which was great. We both hung around the MOT test guy, who was happy to tell us progress in real time as he performed the checks.

To save the hassle, I'm taking the car back tomorrow to the same garage for them to fix both issues and hopefully get her through the MOT - I have no time myself to sort in the 10 day MOT "retest" window, so will need to splash a bit more cash :D. I must say a big thank you to Ian Mothersole who is taking time out tomorrow to escort me down to the garage and to bring me back when I leave the car down there :)

Overall, I'm disappointed not to get her through first time, but not surprised, as she's been off the road for 10 years!

Hopefully, I'll have better news soon, providing when they start poking at the rusty sill they don't find it has spread further than it appears! Fingers crossed everyone :D

So, so close now.... good call to get the garage to sort it, especially in this weather.
Great to see another FB returned to the road after a long hibernation. s(c)

Looks like the car is just a short time away from being legal so you can enjoy it.

Sometimes I wonder how so many rusty (and a lot newer) white vans are on the road with far worse rot than any old jap metal I have owned yet our cars fail an MOT on such a small problem. I can understand anything structural not passing though.

Fingers crossed for you bud

The handbrake problem is a regular bind (excuse pun).

For some reason the drivers side caliper mechanism goes stiff. Not the other side though!!!!

The fix is to slack back the cable, remove from the cleat (use big screwdriver here as a lever.....much grunting and groaning helps enormously), get some oil down the cable end under the boot, clean the pivot fork on the caliper and then reassemble with some white grease on the fork......then adjust at the handbrake lever for 5 clicks of ratchet.

Try the wheel by hand (a) for binding with handbrake off (b) for locking correctly with handbrake full on.

In extreme cases the piston may need to be wound into the caliper a bit more.

Thanks Codge, the garage has now sorted it, plus the welding, so I have a valid MOT for KIMI 2 :) :) :) :) :)

I'll wait until 1st Dec to get the Road Tax sorted and then we'll have one more FB back on the road!! I'm hoping to take her along to some shows next year to meet up with other owners and get some ideas. She may not be the prettiest, but I'll spend some time over the winter doing some fettling and taking her out on dry days to keep things moving.

Feeling really happy and chuffed :D

Off out this evening to watch Colchester Utd home game. If we win, it will cap a great day th:

Also need to get back to work on KIMI 1, now I have KIMI 2 as a "runner" to enjoy!
