I work at a local Motor Factors so getting oil isn't a problem. So a 10w40 semi is fine to use regardless of engine history?

I've been using Mobil Super 1000 mineral oil since I got my car. Just got some more today from Halfords actually as I'm due an oil change

Anything that is good quality, I wouldn't skip on price or will ruin bearings etc.
the amount of people not maintaining the oil levels in their cars and using good
quality oil is madness. The next owner gets the troubles and start running the
rotary engine down when it was poorly maintained by previous owners.
Castrol is good though.

Resurrecting the perennial subject of "Which Oil" I stumbled across this which is interesting:-

Re: What is the best Oil to use in a Rotary Engine?
Having read the the sales pitch of Royal Purple, I thought I would try some different 2 Stroke oils as a Pre-mix @ 400-1.
I found with different mineral 2 & 4x oils there was a slight improvement in Tickover & general engine smoothness & a slight improvement in performance.
I then tried the same ratio with Synthetic 2x & found a greater improvement but by far the best was Stihl (Chainsaws/Strimmers oil) .
They make 3 types, the best was the Green which is recommended for 4 Mix engines (a 4x engine but uses a Pre Mix) it can also be used in standard 2x machinery.
Not only has it increased smoothness/performance but it has reduced the running temperature, especially when driven hard or in heavy traffic. Stihl claim there is hardly any residue left after ignition in the combustion chamber, I have seen several Stihl engines that have been stripped & with next to no residue/carbon/caramelisation in the chambers.
Any thought/similar findings welcome

Re: What is the best Oil to use in a Rotary Engine?
There is very little smoke or odour, my Stihl supplier said they are about to release oil that has no smoke, residue or odour but it will cost about £30 a litre.
I also read on a Forum that a few in Aus use it, but can't find the thread again, Doh should have bookmarked
I have always used Stihl oil in all my Chainsaws/Strimmers/Hedgecutter/Disc Cutters & have never had one Seize or wear out the Crank or rings & they Rev Flat Out.
Time will tell

Re: What is the best Oil to use in a Rotary Engine?
I think most of these petrol power tool manufacturers will go over to a system similar to the Husqvarna oil guard system which needs a dye in the oil to work ..... don't know if the quantities we'd need to premix would result in any excess smoke from the dye? Any thoughts?
