I am on AUSROTARY but will not be putting up a build thread on there I thought that its a little more FB related here and did not want all the AUSROTARY heroes, but any answers to my gearbox mount questions would be great.

You'd be surprised. All the heroes have moved from the forum to other platforms, making the forum a much more pleasant place. This is a nice forum though and great to get different perspectives, hence my starting a log here too.

As for the gearbox:

All 74-85 RX manual transmission mounts are the same. The auto mounts differ, but they still have 2 bolt holes. All of the 1st gen crossmembers (manual and auto) have 2 bolt holes to bolt to the chassis (one on each side). If yours has 4 bolt holes it's not from a 1st gen and I'm not sure why it's like that.

Here's the auto mount:

The s4-5 gearbox crossmember has a central rubber isolator and 4 bolt holes to the chassis (2 on each side), like so:

It then has the two 45 deg rubber mounts and a Y-shaped bracket, like so:

There's 3 ways you can fit a s4-5 box to a 1st gen RX-7:

1) use that eBay adaptor and the standard s1-3 gearbox mount and crossmember;
2) use the standard s5 45 deg rubber mounts and s5 crossmember, modifying the crossmember by redrilling the holes to line up where the nutserts are located in the chassis and spacers to adjust to the correct height; or
3) make a custom cross-member.

Hi,

Car is looking good!

I too am in Sydney, I was just wondering if you still have the silver shell that you killed?

I need to chop some bits out for my project.

Tried to PM you, but the message is stuck in my outbox.

Cheers :D

On phpBB forums like this one, that means your PM hasn't been read yet. ;) Once it's read, it moves to Sent Messages.
