The 54mm nut holds the counterweight to the eshaft.The_Smurph wrote:yeah no idea whats going on with those nuts the thread has been randomly ground down as well, just figured someone knew better but i am wondering if they just didn't trust the flywheel nut. or didnt torque it enough and had problems :/
The bolts (nuts in your case) hold the flywheel to the counterweight.
It looks cockamamie. Ditch them and fit the proper bolts. Hopefully it's not masking problems.
Yes, I saw the car at Retrorides. It was pretty basic and the motor was far from right. He had apparently only recently slapped it in there and attempted to tell me it was something it clearly wasn't.The_Smurph wrote:this engine was originally rebuilt by hayward for a mk1golf on a beetle pan built by pipey mcgraw, but since then has been sat in a escort hence the rx8 drivetrain so that chap must have boshed the fly and clutch on there. so im not even sure if that counterweight was on before the fly or went on with it.

Nope. You need to measure the thickness of the weight. See here:The_Smurph wrote:i havent got it off yet as waiting for the 54mm to get it off with, but i assume the counterweight will have some form of way of identifying it stamped.

Dk, regards my location i am southwest more burnham on sea than taunton and this white elford lives one junction down near bridgwater. due to him not using internet when he needed parts he bought from mazda and showed me some housings he paid 1600 for years ago. ouch.
and cheers for that info Tool, yes the engine was according to others never running right which gave me a worry before so contacted pipey mcgraw and he claimed that was just during RRG and it was later sorted. i havent spoken to hayward like i was hoping as his number doesnt go through and no reply on facebook so cant even confirm the engine is as claimed. but.. ive got it now and hopefully get it in and running soon enough.
as far as clutch concerned something amazing that costs nothing... failing that anything better than standard 225mm but not too pricey as ive skint myself out already, im seeing a range on ebay blueprint poor clones for cheap but probs fine to expensive race clutches but way too much money for my wallet.
