many main dealers no longer have the microfiche for these cars, or if they do, they can't be arsed to dig it out. Fortunately, we have got the microfiches....

if you're ever going to ask a main dealer for a price and parts availability, get the part number you need off here first and then hit them with that.
The part number for the correct genuine Mazda 12a inlet gasket set is the one I posted earlier.

Well, that went as predicted I thought just for a laugh I'd see what they were made of, so wandered up to the desk and when the guy very disinterestedly said "Help you, mate?" I tried "Yeah, I need an intake manifold gasket for a 12A". Blank look. "Wassat then?". *sighs* "A 12A engine, you know, a rotary? From an RX-7?" Rolls eyes heavenwards...."Oh, one of them. You got a registration number?" spoken with all the enthusiasm of someone asking to borrow your pen so they can dig dog s*** out of their shoe. At that point I gave in and handed him the part number. I had to restrict myself to a "Sorry, thought you'd know since there's a bloody great Mazda sign above the door".

Hatred and contempt are very purifying, cleansing emotions, I always feel .

Still, £5-something plus VAT, four days from Europe. Apparently Europe still has a use for 12a intake gaskets Thanks for the help, and for the part#, Ian. I could have lost days off my life trying it any other way.....

Finally got a chance to pick the gasket up. Thanks for the help, guys. It came in after four working days, so one day faster than they said. Still left with the foul taste in my mouth dealers seem to insist on leaving you with. Why does it always have to be like they're doing you a favour selling you parts, condescending to serve you? I tell you, when I rule the world it'll be a better place

Anyway, for future reference... part # 3743-13-111B does indeed get you one of these;

Soooo.... stupid question of the week time.

Hopefully gonna have time to finally tackle this leak this weekend, do I need to drop the coolant completely? And what, if any, flavour of gasket sealant would be advisable?

Don't need to drop past the inlet manifold Nik, but you might as well?
There's not much more to drain out at that point. Then you've got fresh stuff for 2/3 years.

I'm not sure I used any sealant the couple or three times I've done this job. I think Vaseline smeared on, just to let the gasket 'spread' against the metal faces is enough.
