Some updates:

I've been living abroad for over 3 years now but this project is being chipped away at. I've mostly stripped the car and am planning a full restoration. I also happened upon a parts car sitting in a field for sale less than a mile away from where my car is. I've stripped that for parts (some for sale in the breaking section) and I'll be back to work on my car in August:

My current feelings are that I really like this blue colour and may end up having the white car resprayed after welding. Did the blue come with the red interior option? Looks like they'd work great together when offered up.

I'll also try to source an LSD (Haven't decided which yet) and a stock looking spoiler that will hold up better than the original. The engine will go to a specialist somewhere for a full rebuild and I'll have a full exhaust made up. Suspension and brakes will also be all new.

the blue only came with the grey interior in the UK... different markets worldwide had a wide mix of colours and trims... Mazda actually call the grey interior trim 'black' although it's nowhere near black.
On my silver car I swapped the wine red trim for the grey as I much prefer the grey look to the red.

The official Mazda name for the interior colour is actually "off black". 8-)

I've actually seen a tender blue car come with brown interior in Australia, but it looks terrible compared to the off black. Every other one I've seen came with off black interior, but tender blue was a pretty rare colour compared to the UK (where it almost seems 1 in every 3 cars is tender blue). I've seen less than 10 of them in the past 20 odd years out of hundreds of series 3s. Silver, white, red, and the 2 tones were the most common colours for series 3 here.

They’re right about that, it is ‘off black’.... or to be more specific... grey!
It’s nothing like black unlike the truely black interiors in the series 2’s
