Festival of the Unexceptional 2018 - Stowe - 14th July

Post by MelloYello »

This was the first time i attended this event.
Who knew so much fun could be had surrounded by "unexceptional" cars..... well I suspected which was the reason I was there.

Great venue at Stowe House near Oxford.
Organised by Hagerty's Insurance.

Awesome variety of vehicles. Who needs Goodwood's Festival of Speed? Not us.

Here is a selection of the vehicles present, with a nice surprise at the end.

Hi guys,

@MelloYello, it was our first time at the Unexceptional as well. But we were equally impressed. It certainly won't be the last time we attend...
For anyone gasping for more pics from the event, we featured two different reports on ViaRETRO:

The main: http://www.viaretro.com/2018/07/the-exc ... ceptional/
And the follow-up: http://www.viaretro.com/2018/07/excepti ... ceptional/

@Codge, my friend and colleague Claus drove the RX-7 over from Scandiland. As such, it was traveling through the UK in much the same way that your English registered classic would be travelling through another country, should you choose to attend a classic car show somewhere in mainland Europe. Our Elford Turbo was driven fully legal, with a current MOT, insurance etc etc...
Since then, Claus has flown back home to Denmark, but to my great pleasure, he has left me the RX-7 here in the UK. I'm now in the process of giving the RX-7 it's first UK MOT in approximately 20 years. Soon enough it'll be back on a UK registration...
Claus has just shared the story of repatriating the Elford to the UK: http://www.viaretro.com/2018/07/deliver ... o-england/

Watch this space... ;)
Best Regards,
02Anders.

Hi Anders

welcome to the forum h:
It looks like a very nice car... you may need to remind the mot tester that 1st gens don't get tested for emissions in the UK, it's just a visual check for smoke.... many mot testers don't realise this and may therefore fail a 1st gen RX7 on it's emissions.... there is a form somewhere on this forum which you can show to a mot tester to prove emissions don't get tested.

Thx for the warm welcome! :P
And not least, thx for the tip on emissions for UK MOT's. I'll make sure to kindly remind my local garage...

I'll soon enough set up a new thread for our Elford Turbo. It's far from perfect, but it seems to be a largely solid and tidy car which I can improve along the way.
I'll also need a few bits and bobs to make her better, so I'll likely be visiting the classifieds on the forum regularly too.
Oh, and with it being my first Mazda and my first rotary too, I'm sure I'll be asking plenty of dumb newbie questions as we go. I just hope you'll all put up with me...??
Best Regards,
02Anders.
