ongoing re commission of our RX7

Post by rustyrescue »

so, having stripped/cleaned the carb and set it up the beast starts hot or cold really well and settles to a super smooth idle. Cant road test until it is mot'd and in due course will use an overhaul kit from the states.
I am asking a few other questions in case there are quick pointers, it seems silly working out what to use if somebody already invented the wheel for me !!
Fuel filter....those listed in states look wrong, with the in and outlet at right angles. I assume any filter fitting under the rear will suffice or indeed re plumb and fit a decent one under the bonnet?
Heater hoses...not listed anywhere, they look like 17mm internal diameter but are very bendy. I could make something up, what have others used.
Fan belt coming...it stripped and snapped as was so old! I need to test whether the fan coupling is slipping correctly too.

This is the animal here .. fuel filter https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BLUE-PRINT-F ... SwgkVf-Paq

RockAuto listings https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/maz ... ilter,6200

Heater hoses are still available ex US. Postage may be a dealbreaker though. You can use flexible hose to make your own although it won't do all the OEM bendy bits.

thanks, mann filer bought,
I am still trying to work out the heater hoses, looked at a later year and see hoses looking similar. Rock give the diameter and span, I guess span is the distance from ends directly not measured round all bends etc which I had done to work out total lengths.

The car is getting close to mot time, a bit more to do then hopefully it can be driven to see how it is on the road. THe oil cooler pipes are terrible, has anybody advice on replacement? where to source etc??
I wondered if I should hack the pressed pipes off the banjo's and use lengths of oil pipe double jubilee clipped as a swift solution.....one of the originals is so collapsed I do not fancy driving it :o

Oil cooler pipes - you could give Clive at Racing Beat Europe a call to see if he can help:

when I did mine I carefully cut the fittings off some old Mazda OEM hoses and took them to a local hydraulic hose company and the guy there crimped them onto new hoses for me...
