Re: ongoing re commission of our RX7
I have an FC cooler on mine. But I believe the same principle applies. I bought some adapters to AN10, fittings, and braided hose (nylon braid is nice to work with) off Torques on ebay aye. They're easy enough to make up

Re: ongoing re commission of our RX7
Update, we hoped to mot the car but have had to cancel......just cant get it running well, it kangeroos and lurches as we apply accelerator and seems to run a bit hot too? Then it stuck a float and flooded but a tap of hammer sorted that!
I have also posted on Facebook but wondered if there are any guru's here who may be able to help with advice...I am getting the hump with it!!
I feel fairly it is carb/intake/vacuum related......not ignition.

Re: ongoing re commission of our RX7
Double check Plugs (they foul easy) HT leads in correct places, make sure Leading % trailing are correct & coils(s) are not breaking down, my seem obvious but easy to get wrong

Re: ongoing re commission of our RX7
Hi and thanks DKW2000. Sorry for long post but here we go!
This is where we are and I am getting a bit stumped. The symptoms are great start hot or cold, idles nice, sounds nice BUT trying to drive it kangeroo jumps a lot and in workshop if I try and hold revs at a fixed level of say 3000rpm is is not stable. Blip throttle hard and it picks up well and noticably if building revs up it takes off higher up when I guess 2nd barrels come on.
Already checked for silly errors! timing is good on leading and trailing with strobe, plugs ok, etc etc.
Done......
Tank cleaned out and refitted.
New fuel filter and temporary one near carb.
Fuel hoses replaced, pipes all blown through.
Fuel pump new universal unit, fuel flow with filters in place matches workshop manual flow rate spec by testing, pumps 4psi pressure closed and Tee'd in holds between 3.5 and 4psi running on car.
New plugs...after the small amount of running its had they are all uniform colour..mixed grey and brownish, look OK I would say.
New leads
Rotor and dizzy cap
all coolant hoses
thermostat
Viscous fan seized and removed, has electric fan on thermo switch, holds midway on gauge turning on and off fan idling on drive in 30 degree hot day but seems to get too warm when trying to drive car, a little about 3/4 or a bit more up.
Oil cooler pipes remade.
Oil/filters of course.
Gearbox/diff oils
all new flexi brake hoses.Various bushes, gaiters etc for mot.
Carb stripped/cleaned, new accelerator pump parts to make work.
All ready for mot save a small welding repair to one corner and making it actually drive right!
Whilst it could be ignition related it does not seem like a misfire, though I have no experience of rotaries before. It seems more like carby/air leak type issue but I could be wrong. The fact when revved stationary it picks up so well when the 2nd barrels come on may be a pointer.
Oh yes.....it had on it when bought I think a full Janspeed exhaust....the manifold "gubbins" is removed along with blanking plate, also the idle compenator in the airbox is not connected and I assume the air pipe connector where ever that is has been capped?
Ideally fitting a known good carb would rule out or prove a lot!! was hoping to mot it and take on a run to a rotary day later this month but that looks unlikely now

Where are you based? There are several rotary specialists that could potentially save you a lot of time.

Re: ongoing re commission of our RX7
Hi, I will take a picture of the carb and try to work out how to post it haha! I live on Surrey Hants borders in UK but being honest i like sorting things myself! my young daughters boyfriend has an FD just put into a specialist currently.
Coils......likely original, most of the car is!
I was starting to wonder if a coil may be playing up....when being run in workshop the engine does slightly vibrate like a misfire perhaps...not being expert on rotary I am not sure how it would be. I have video's the car running, its on FB!

What coils should I fit as replacements? for relatively little outlay it would replace the originals.
