Street Nationals Show

Post by Lucky »

Not sure if these pics will be of huge interest on here, since mine and Mike's (mooragerx7) were the only FBs there, but us FDUKers put on an epic stand with help from our Exile brothers, and a rotary won the round of the Jap Drag series, so I thought I'd put them up here. There's loads of Yank/Euro cars here, too, so if that upsets you just stop reading when you get to the end of the rotary cars bit, yeah? :D Mind you, we all like cool pics of tuff cars don't we? And they're free to look at. So 'ave a look lol ;)

Right, finally waded through editing a zillion pics, so here's my offerings. I'm copping out and just copying them all from FDUK posts so hopefully there won't be big chunks that don't make sense.

...well, no more so than usual  Sorry, it's taken me three days to retouch them all, I can't spend another two days typingit all out three times as well

The FDUK/Exile stand was apparently the only stand, certainly the best turnout in numbers as well as quality. There were a few nameplates laid out, but hardly any clubs seemed to turn up and take their places. Maybe holding it the same weekend as Japfest was a slight error on behalf of the organisers?

Lovely as always. Sorry about the speeding ticket though, 35 in a 30, gutted!
Image

Di's, the faster half of the FEED Family stable lol
Image

...and the slower half. Maybe it's the sleath that slows it down?
Image

Kash's. Shame you can't hear it in this pic, sounds immense
Image

Raz's baby blue. Not only "finished" for the show season this year, but actually early at the rendezvous! What have you done with the real Raz? Imposter! Give him back!
Image

Does look nice though, don't it? New wheels set it off lovely
Image

In fact, I couldn't decide which of these pics I preferred so you can have them both

Sam's white Dragon, sadly as it turned out, contemplating suicide

This thing just looks awesome on the road

Santa Pod and back with quarter tank of petrol left. How epic is that, I can't do it on one tankful in the FD

Lachie's bodywork mounting skills rival his fibreglassing one lol. Hey, it's been used

PottaRX's UK model FD. Very tidy

Some old skool weird funk for you then...

MY purple panda. Oh yes.

I have got to get one of those beavertail light panel things. So much betterer. Mike's kitted FB looks tough in matt

Some drag racin FDUKers...

The pre-eminent Mr Blackshaw's beautiful (and winningest) silver beastie
Image

It's art, art I tell thee
Image

Now, I'm no expert, but as I understand it, the yellow lines are to prove alignment of wheel to tyre. The fact they don't line up is testament to some extreme poetry of traction versus power. Or to put it another way, this car has enough stomp and the tyres have enough grip that the wheel's spun inside the tyre. Like, wow.
Image

Or I'm talking bollocks and they were painted on at night. Whilst pissed. Movin on...

James had an early bath (only without the bath lol) from the competition, in a truly manly Fast and Furious stylee he has actually blown the welds on the manifold. Though disappointingly the floor didn't fall out.
Still, it wouldn't be the James we know and love if he didn't break something. Here's his gaping orifices...
Image

Image

Not sure what he's up to here, practising being drunk by the look of it. I've used this manouvre myself, the ever-so precise and careful picking-my-keys-up-after-dropping-them-out-of-my-pocket-and-I-don't-trust-myself-to-ever-get-back-up-if-I-actually-crouched-down technique. Hard enough to master when pissed, he must have skills to do it sober lol
Image

Fortunately the tyre's only flat at the bottom. The man's a style icon, too
Image

Sadly, Blitzen went out early doors too, I gather due to gaying up his gearbox. Still put on a top show as always, and who'd argue with something that looks this evil?
Image

Piston Killa rocks the distressed, patinated look on the inside. It's a tool. The car's quite purposeful as well
Image

I think there's still some genuine Dummer hedge foliage in there too
Image

I won't repeat loads of pics others have already posted, suffice to say that rotaries represented well in the RWYB as well, Adie having several good runs, Sam posting a repsectable time despite blowing up before the quarter and li'l Edd doing well despite gearbox issues. Well done all
Image

This is something no-one wants to see, though, FDs should be neither tower nor towee :( Sad times

Right, I think that's it for rotaries so you can all go away now if that's all you're interested in lol. For those still here, some random pics of other stuff in no particular order...

Every other car seemed to be a Camaro of some flava or other. If this had been a real Z28 it would be the rarest car there by some margin, and probably about as valuable as the rest put together. I'm unconvinced, sadly, but it was bloody lovely
Image

Image

Bag's on upside down though
Image

Image

Yellow 'scort on Minilites was unspeakably lovely. Just one of the icons of my youth brought into the modern world, and I WANT ONE
Image

Image

John Bradshaw's fat ass stripped for action. Oooer
Image

More Escort action. For those of an age to think the Professionals was the second-coolest TV series ever (after the Sweeney, obviously). Or for those of an age to remember M*x P*wer and TSW centre-drives fondly
Image

Drag Scirocco. I always think FWD draggers look funny with little pram wheels on the back and drag slicks up front
Image

Chevy Nova soooooooo clean and crisp. And fast
Image

Another Camaro. With Blue Peter hoodscoop

Those of you who love the Cars films (and if not, why not?) will recognise Mr The King. Those who know their Yank racing history will recognise a Plymouth Superbird Richard Petty replica. (Petty is the winningest ever Nascar driver and the Superbird is the car he made his legend into fact in. Imagine a full pack of these and the similarly-styled Dodge Daytonas honkiing round the Indy banking at just shy of 200mph! Alarming. Factoid of the day, Petty actually voiced The King in the Cars films, and his wife did Mrs The King). This rep was built by a fella called Don form down my way, was the cover car on Classic American last month. He's in the enviable position of being able to buy a fully built crate Edelbrock Hemi motor for it. Awesome.
Image

Albeit a replica, it's still a very valuable car and much kudos to him for RWYBing it. Ran elevens, too. If it was a real one, it would have doubled the number of Superbirds in the UK... and cost into six figures
Image

Image

Dunno if it shows, but I have the serious horn for this car lol
Image

Image

Here's another one of my fave Yanks, the flippy drag 67 'Stang
Image

This thing is fast as well as gorgeous, as drag cars should be. Eat your heart out, pikey cable-tie doriftuu brigade lol
Image

Image

Image

Another drag Scirocco, I gather this has the 4WD VW platform underneath it. Lovely bodywork on it
Image

Image

Goddamned Datsun 200SXs have to put in some drifting... even when they're drag racing
Image

Image

Another sorted Escort

Anyone who's read my "Epic Nova" build thread will recognise the-other-Rich's black Chevy Nova here...
Image

Sadly, it dropped a conrod bolt (google "conrod", diehard rotards lol) on the second run. That ended a bit ugly. Still ran a ten though
Image

Yet another Camaro
Image

Still everyone loves a twin-Holley-Weilland-blower setup, don't they?
Image

This Beetle is the LAW. End of, it's awesome
Image

Just looks like an unassuming run-of-the-mill rat look 50's bug from the front
Image

But round the back there's so much damned engine it's actually ruptured its gusset and prolapsed
Image

Image

Bonkers mad thing
Image

Image

Image

Random miscellaneous fella has obviously seen the FDUK lunge FB page
Image

Leon Green must be the loneliest man on the strip this year, in a category with one other car... Bradshaw's ridiculous Zed. Poor bloke, must be disheartening to say the least. Doesn't stop him putting on a show though
Image

Image

Sadly, it did blow up a bit. Bummer. Epic time considering!
Image

Yep, another Camaro. Innit nice though?
Image

Image

must-resist...do-NOT-press...
Image

Don't care how many times you see it, FireForce never gets old
Image

Six and a bit at 245mph. Nuff said

Not your average BMW Mini Cooper then

This Cossie Escort was a bit of a bloody thing. Fairly unassuming from the back...

..as you got nearer the front the quality (and cost) of the componentry started to shine through

...like, twin carbon Reverie buckets. How much!?

...and as for the engine! Well...

Oooooh

The original Tupperware Torpedo, still groovy after all these years

Here's a bit of a thing, a drag Corsa. Mental little thing

Dry ice-filled chargecooler in the passenger footwell keeps intake temps around 0 degrees. And costs £60 a pop to fill

Image

I always like the Corrado shape, the 90's forgotten coupe and one of very few VWs I could think of ever owning
Image

As Rob patented it, he takes credit for noticing the "Gabrielle Edition" look amongst drag cars this season. It's what all the Haute Couture velocipedes are wearing, darlings
Image

Speaking of forgotten coupes, not too many good ones of these left

the ratty one for me, ta

That's yer lot, thanks for reading (if anyone still is). Good day out, all in all, though a very odd show. Never seen the Pod so empty and I'd be surprised if it gets run again next year. Got some vids to upload still, especially ones of Rob's awesome win in the Jap Drag Series final. But for now, tara-a-bit

I say young lady, get yer feet off them chair backs, some old codger might want to sit there.

Thanks Nik, for all the work you put into this Forum.....and for a zillion clever quips that seem to run through your mind ceaselessly. (I mean really clever and not smart-arse clever)

Appreciate It. Dave

awesome post Nik, once again in your hilarious and inimitable style!

Some seriously cool cars there.... I'm a big fan of the late 60's &1970's American muscle cars..... if I lived over there my garage would consist of a GSL-SE RX7 plus a Camaro, Charger or Firebird ( or GTO ).
Nice to see some old 70's and 80's UK cars too.
