Jumbo

Post by DB RX63 »

Another RX7 being re-born.

I bought this car from a lovely old chap in Bournemouth, who still has another white FB in his garage. The car has not been used on the road since 1999, but the owner kept the car in full running condition. Over the years Tim White has serviced the car and I have a list of all the work done since 1996. The fuel pump being changed in 2010.

I am aiming to get the car MOT'd next week to see what needs doing, the brakes seem reasonable and the tank was empty so should be ok there, we'll see.

I plan to keep it pretty much as standard, but will uprate all suspension, brakes etc at some point.

Hi Ian,

Thanks mate.

I'll do my best but I really don't think I will quite manage your high standards, I'm too impatient, I always want to get it back on the road ASAP...........

Well chaps, my son and I have been fiddling today, cleaned the plugs, new fuel and a tweak of the timing and runs sweet, just a bit of popping on overrun, so still needs more work on ignition, but so far so good, no leaks and everything (except the aerial) works, even if the headlight links are a bit dry.

We have unseized the front caplipers, just working on the back till it got a bit late and my stomach thought my throat had been cut ! I have some concerns over the windscreen pillars, but I will have a look at them tomorrow. There are a few paint issues and the n/s rear wheel arch has a fair bit of filler in it, but overall she is solid.

I will have problems with MOT and the exhaust, the back box has some holes in it, I am hoping to get hold of a Janspeed front system, but still need to source a decent back box (Ripleys methinks ?)

For a car that has been off the road for 12 years it is in fantastic condition, a real testament to the work Pete put in looking after it.

I'm no professional car restorer either! I just do my best too and to a standard that I'm happy with, same as the rest of us really. They're our cars and who's to say whether they're good enough or not... as long as we're happy, that's all that counts. My slow progress is down to time and money limits rather than being a perfectionist!
What are your plans for this car..... something you can put your own stamp on if the Elford is going to stay original?
Pleased for you mate.... it's always exciting to get a 'new' 1st gen.... g-l
