And......it's got S3 wheels yeh? But the VIN looks for all the world like (JMZFB131)200665592.....where I've put in the bit in brackets.
That's an S2 VIN. Tres Interesant Mon Braves.

Still driving an 8 but looking forward to getting into something way more oldschool none the less Smile

If Tim White at RX Motors says it needs a full restoration, you can be assured that's what it needs. It's been stood ( maybe in that front garden) for 14 years and will need tons of work, parts and cash lavished on it. Remember, body condition is everything on these cars..... they hide their rust very well unless you know where to look.

My advice Ben, for what it's worth, is that as this is going to be your first 1st gen RX7, buy a decent car with a good mot on it and then enjoy it, drive it, mod it..... whatever.
If you then get the urge to restore one, have a look around for a project.
If, on the other hand, you really fancy taking on a full resto now, your best bet is to ring RX Motors and speak to Tim..... he's genuine and honest and will give you the full sp on this black series 3 he's selling.

Cheers for that Ian :D Ive put a bid on it ... if i win it i wont have paid much and come rain or shine ill see her right again!!!

i have a bit of space to play with and really want , most of the work i will be able to do myself and the stuff i carnt i will have friends to do it.

I bought this Rx-7 unseen on eBay in 'barn find' condition. It seemed worth gambling that an excellent car would lie beneath the layers of dust and owl-droppings. I was mildly disappointed. The car has some merit, but it's rather more of a restoration project that I'd hoped. I already have far too many restos on the go, so have decided to shelve my Rx-7 fantasy for the time-being.

Mechanical stuff
The twin-rotor Wankel engine runs and appears to be in good mechanical fettle. The carburettor needs stripping and cleaning - I think there are a few foreign bodies clogging its jets, and the float chamber gaskets are currently fashioned from blue Hylomar.
I'm new to Wankels, but spinning the engine by hand demonstrates what I'd deem to be sensible compression.

The clutch is stuck in the disengaged position. I assume the friction plate has seized on the splined shaft. This in mind, I'm unable to report on the condition of the gearbox and final drive - other than saying that the gear selector feels pleasantly taut and accurate.
It's been standing for at least a decade, so it's safe to assume that the brake hydraulics will need attention. There is good pressure at the pedel, though. I did manage to temporarily revive the clutch hydraulics, but both the slave and master cylinder do need new seals. The exhaust has seen better days.

Body
The body is scruffy, with a myriad of scrapes. The most alarming are a series of dents along the leading edge of the roof, a dent in the passenger's door and a deeper dent in the driver's side front wing.
There are various rust bubbles, some of which have penetrated the metal - notably the front corners of the bonnet, various points around the wheelarches and both door bottoms. The latter are quite bad - replacing the doors is probably the sensible way forward.
It's pretty good underneath. It's never been welded, and the only cause for concern is a small hole where the passenger's side sill meets the rear wheelarch.

Interior
I think it'll clean up quite nicely. There's a split stitch on the lower section of the rear seat and the driver's seat is lightly worn.
I haven't tested all the electrics, but I didn't notice anything that didn't work when playing with the car. The headlights pop up.
In short
It's a very worthy project. There wouldn't be a massive amount of work or expense involved in getting it fully-functional and roadworthy. There's a fair bit of bodywork to address if full-blown restoration is the aim, but it is fundamentally solid.
