Wasted spark on the leading coil is fine, and indeed is what FC and FDs run.

Wasted spark on the trailing coil would result in a broken engine. It would be seriously bad news.

EDIT: at least, FDs are. I have to admit I haven't looked too far into the mysteries of the FB ignition system, mainly cos it hasn't gone wrong. Yet :lol:
FD and FC turbo are - the leading plugs are fired by the same coil but with 2 towers. RX8 uses coil on plug which also fires at the same time but each coil is a separate entity.

FBs and anything rotary with a distributor isn't - but as per the above they can be made to be.
