FC Calipers on S3 Discs & Hubs

Post by DB RX63 »

Chaps,

Has anyone fitted FC front calipers onto a std S3 250mm disc or had a plate made to fit em ?

I have gained a set of FC calipers and fancy the extra stopping power, i know FC discs are a different fitment (bell type) and larger diameter etc etc.

Someone must have done this ?

Cheers

DB

I have FC calipers and discs front and rear, I used the respeed kit and EFI hubs from the states so I could keep my 4x114.3 pcd, next upgrade is a FD brake booster just needs fitting

I was looking at the re-speed kit, but i need to stay with Std 250mm S3 discs, FC discs are 276mm dia and bell type etc etc.....

So I doubt the re-speed brackets will work.

Because of wheel size? Not sure the calipers will work then? Only way would be custom brackets but you won't have the correct footprint for FC pads

Exactly that - wheel size.

Ah that, I did not think of, no pads in the calipers at the mo.

Get some decent pads in what you have (hawks are good) and you may be surprised by the difference

I was going to suggest exactly that. I honestly dunno what the point of upgrading to FC brakes this side of a racetrack is. I guess the larger diameter gives more feel in terms of pedal modulation, but since you want to keep stock disc sizes you won't even get that benefit. I put carbon race compound Hawk pads in my stock S3 brakes and they're more than good enough to lock the wheels even in the dry so the limiting factor would seem to be tyre grip rather than brake friction lol

Well Chaps, it is motorsport that is the influence.

I am building a tarmac rally spec car, but for the mo am stuck with 14" rims, but I figured a 4 pot caliper will give a bit more grunt in the slowing down department.

I might have to stick with std S3 calipers for the time being until I can run FC discs and calipers under a 15" rim I guess.

That'd explain it then

Seriously, try Cambridge Motorsport and get them to supply you with some race compund Hawks, for the sake of 70 quid you may find they save you a lot of machining hell and annoyance cos the difference is truly remarkable. Worth trying the easy fixes first. I'd have thought boiling the fluid may be the real problem in track use.....

You can get FC calipers behind 14 inch wheels I am reliably told but you need to chop the calipers down.

I fitted FC front brakes with 15s on my RX2 with a bigger MC. Much better.
Back in the UK for the summer, maybe longer......
