Progress...
Bumper now fits like it was made for the car. Errrrm, which it was alleged to be, of course. But didn't. Anyway;
Much moar better! I can't quite get over how much it changes not just the look (obviously) but also the entire vibe of the car. It's lost its slightly effete overbite and got an aggressive Judge Dredd lantern jaw instead
although that's an epically bad pic, sorry! Also much smoother and more funkier for having deleted the daft headlight washer prongers. Since the paint was being flung about we took the opportunity to fix the big blemish on the bonnet where someone had obviously shut it onto a tool or something they'd left on the air cleaner and dented it outwards. Plus, the trailing edges of the front wings were starting to rot away so Daryll the ace fabricator welded some new metal in there. His skillz are well top, the welds were so neat it barely needed any filler at all to smooth them out afterwards!
Anyway, the fogs are wired in and work off the defunct switch in the centre console that I think worked the electric aerial that was knackered when I got the car. So that's one loose end tied up then, too. One of the bulbs had blown and turned out to be some period piece of Cibie French weirdness. Cost a fiver for one bulb! Maybe I'll replace the whole lot with LEDs for a bit of modernity and errrmm Audi-alike styling. Then again, maybe not lol
But as one problem is solved another arises. It would appear that the paint on the car has faded rather over the years (no surprise I guess, it is like 27 years old after all). This means it's been a nightmare trying to match it. The painter's mixed up about eight different versions of the code, and none of them are quite right. It's hard to take a pic of it, but in the sunlight the difference is quite marked.
You can see how the door which hasn't been painted is quite greeny compared to the more grey/blue of the new wing paint. Annoying but only to be expected, I suppose. It means more work having to blend the paint in along the sides of the car, because if it stops at a panel line then it just looks like the car's been badly repaired from 2nd hand panels. We'll get there. Meanwhile, advanced tinnitus from my FD's failing zorst gaskets is only a matter of days away....
