That gas analyser would be a nice piece of kit to have.

Anyone got any experience of a cheap DIY one?

I got that off e-bay for £60, it was cheap because the 02% doesn't work but I'm only interested in co and hc so was chuffed with it.

Spass vogel
Un moeglich
junggesellinnenabschied

It only does CO though.

Inspired by Nik, not as posh but it still makes the rest of the engine bay look grubby

Looks good, Keith. I've made the bad decision of polishing an FD alternator as an upgrade.. Motivation to finish it = :(. Are we all going to have extra clean alternators over the next few months or something?

That does look great, Keith. Think of it as a centrepiece rather than making everything else look grimy

Jesse, I polished the alternator on my FD... which is exactly why I wasn't about to do it on the FB  Good news is they're pretty much identical in terms of assembly as the guide I posted for S3 ones. I believe they're an 80amp output though, so rather better than the 55amp FB ones. Although I'm not sure how well the electronic outputs will match up... the FB ones basically have one for the dash light to show charge and the voltmeter whereas the FD ones are a bit more complex because of the fuel injection computer. I guess you'll be able to just ignore the bits you don't need

Yeah it's safe to say I won't be doing it again. I've only gone over with 240 grit so far! hahah. Although it's looking pretty sweet since I got a lot of the rough bits sorted. I did see your alternator rebuild thread and thought it was pretty similar to my FD which is in pieces . I believe the FD units are 100 amps bro!

Slight rewiring is needed but there is a good thread on Ausrotary about how to do it all 0-0

Just some high temp paint after a blasting in the cabinet. I'm too lazy to go down the polishing route.
