Couple of problems with the FB. Not *major* right now as the car is in for a bit of body resto.
Had the car serviced by a mate, got all the recommended bits and bobs. Car sat up for a couple of days before I took it onto another buddy for the body resto. On the way up to him, the car revved grand but couldn't get it over 40mph? Any ideas?
The morning after I dropped it up to my mate, he got the car started. He had the choke the whole way out, left it for about a minute and put it the whole way back in and got out of the car, then it cut out. I usually take it the whole way out, after about half a minute put it half way back in and then once its warm enough put it the whole way back. Anyway, he hasn't been able to get this going again. He can get the dashlights on, but can't get the engine to turn over. The dashlights don't dim or anything when he turns the key to turn it over. The mate who serviced it said it happened to him a couple of times, but he just said there is a bit of play in the barrel. That never happened to me before that. Any ideas on that too?
Cheers for any help lads!

Re: Engine not getting over 40, now not turning over
Strange events going on here mate. If it revs and goes through the gears it has to go over 40 mph?
Do you mean the clutch is slipping or do you mean it bogs down on the revs when you accelerate but it revs grand with no load on engine?
With the starting, is the starter engaging or not?
More descriptions needed here for us to give you ideas what to look at.

Re: Engine not getting over 40, now not turning over
I had a similar problem with mine after standing for a few years, it would not go above 30mph, as alot of you know on here the problem I had was carb had varnished up and the secondaries were not opening, so it sounds like a carb clean and rebuild to me.
good luck

So, it revs grand through the gears up until it hits 40, then you're stuck in 3rd or 4th gear. I only got to drive it for about ten minutes. I was thinking maybe the carb needs setting up again. I wouldn't imagine its completely shot after been running fine up until it was serviced? Maybe I'm wrong, I don't have much experience with carb'd motors.
As for the starter, I haven't been there when its happened (coming down today to have a look as I've been flat out in work all week) so I'll have more info later. From what I can tell, the starter isn't engaging. It hasn't happened to me before while starting it but my mate who serviced it said it happened to him a couple of times. I thought maybe its a common enough thing with the FB?
Thanks for the input lads!

Re: Engine not getting over 40, now not turning over
Yes, as Dibs, but I I would go for fuel filter at the back near the tank as number 1 culprit. If nothing from that I'd start looking into the carb being gummed up like Dibs says. Try a new fuel filter first, it might clear it without having to get too involved with the carb.
Then on the starting problem, there's a spade connector on the starter solenoid from the ignition switch......salty weather.....bad connection happens......I have had that happen to me. From memory you can access it from behind the nearside front wheel with the car slightly raised. A quick spray with WD40.

Cheers lads, I'll have a look at that connector this evening.
There was a new fuel filter put into it as part of the service, so it shouldn't be that. I'll have a look. Maybe it just needs a 'good run' after the service? I

Correct Filter? Right way round in the line? Hoses squashed or kinked behind the fuel pump plate? Fuel hose inner rubber failed inside after being disturbed?
It is a nasty job I think, that filter......I always end up with an arm load of raw petrol!!!!

Re: Engine not getting over 40, now not turning over
I wasn't there when he serviced it and was only with the car for as long as it took to drop it up to my buddy for the bodywork. He did mention an arm full of fuel though
That might be the issue so - I'll have a look once I get it back from my mate. I got the filter from mazdarotaryparts.com so I presume its the right one! May not be on right though. I'll let you guys know what I find out

Re: Engine not getting over 40, now not turning over
ive seen the stock plastic filters sucked inside out before so would defiantly check that

So, I went out today to decide on the part and have a look at what the problem with it turning over. Turns out my mate who serviced it already went to have a look and sorted whatever it was with it not starting . I'll have to get onto him and see what he did.!
Cheers for the help lads!
