Hello Im Frederico Afonso and im from Portugal, but I will be moving to uk soon, hopefully in a month and a half or so. I will of course be looking for a rx7 after I sort my things out. I've already been looking here and there but out of curiosity.... where are the automatics?

Hi Frederico. Welcome.

We only have 1, maybe 2 automatic 1st Generation automatics here.....and from memory they were both special imports.

The 1st Gen was really offered to us with just a choice of 6 or 7 colours and everything else was fixed at the Factory. (No options unless you bought from a specialist UK supplier like Elford who oferred their own options list here).

Well that's a bummer... cause my wife just drives automatics. Her drivers license was taken abroad and she is only allowed to drive auto, and i wouldn't want to have to buy another car. It happened like that the last time with the RX-8. I bought a jap import 250hp with 6-speed cause everyone i know advised me to get that one since i had the opportunity. They were right in the way that it was a rare car since europe ones didn't hat the 250hp (or 247 i think), and rx8's are sport cars.. they are not supposed to be autos in the first place.
Well the car really gave me more joy than it would in auto form, but i ended up having to buy a small car to my wife (1.3 auto micra), and i regretted from all the fuel i was spending since i had to drive 80 miles every day and she was only driving 7 or so..... and we could not change cars since she would be stranded. It's a lovely car (the 8 of course.. that micra not so much :) and i will be keeping it in the garage in our home country since there is no point to even think about selling it with the current never stopping depreciating prices of this models.

Dave: would you know if any of those for sale for a sensible price. I would not like to have to buy two cars again on purpose... that Rx-8 left me with very light pockets for years to come, and I still need to find my way here in UK when i settle (that means get a job for me and her). Not to mention that would mean two insurances and that is the part the i know will really hurt... people here keep on scaring me with that subject.

Hi Frederico,

The only automatic 1st generation owner who posts regularly on here is DelMonte.

The other auto has not been seen on the various club sites (newsletters) for years.

There was a third when I look back, again a special import, but again that one has not been seen for years.

Ok Dave, thank you for the information. It might be usefull. I really wouldn't like to end up with a manual.

Its funny how this all came up. My wife was extremely considerate when we discussed the subject. Only demands from her part where 4 seats, (2+2 would do) trunk big enought for our small baby trolley and auto. Apart from that I could choose whatever (thats right) I would like. I brought it down to her in two ways: rx7 since I have a thing for rotaries or mgb Gt,because is dirty cheap and it could even build one from parts alone since everything is available, In fact we went for a cofee here in lincoln this morning and she saw one mgb gt and was all like 'Cool!! But I just dont like the big plastic bumpers'. lolol I will try to get her hooked on rx7s as well.

By the way, anyone here in the forum from Lincoln? Im going to pick up my rx8 from bristol next week before sending it to poland so maybe someone would like to go for a rotary lunch or snack.

Cheers to all,
Frederico
