A big hello to everyone!!!
So I thought it time I introduced myself in the 1st gen forum since im just back from london after buying a 1985 series 3
My names Richard and im a rex-o-holic..
A brief history of my rx7 history. ..
My 3rd gen was almost 10 years ago now!! I was young and bought with my heart, not my head and it nearly bankrupted me, as it also had waterseal failure...I rebuilt it and tuned it, but it kept spitting the dummy, and on the 3rd rebuild it was sold!! I loved the car but couldnt afford to keep it! Time to move on
So 2008 comes along and so does the boredom of my bmw, it was all the car I needed, brilliant, but just another bmw and sooo bland and boring! So I started the hunt and my t2 cab came up. A flight to london and trip out to kent and I owned a great car. I kept the car for 3 great years, it became part of the family... so it was fitting when I proposed to my wife that the car was with us too but the car was a daily driver and I couldnt afford 14mpg and a wedding. Sadly the car went to a new home and happily to a new loving owner on mazdarotaryclub. This was the best car ive owned, it was outdone in outright performance by the 3rd gen, but the retro looks, character and reliability all made it much better than a 3rd gen, Imho of course
So 3 weeks ago 6/4/13 I got myself a wife, and off to Malaysia on honeymoon we went, clearly as rex-o-holic I kept searching to see what was out there and finally I saw my new 1st gen. Being 7 hours ahead I had a long wait untill it was 9am and a more acceptable time to call the seller. I was certain someone else would call before be but luckily I was first and it was arranged, after travelling 23 hours from Malaysia to london and back to Glasgow on Thursdays, we were going back to London for my rx7 obsession on sunday
My wife was almost as excited as me, infact at 5am as the alarm wentb off she was much more excited about the trip
So the rest is history, the previous owner is a great guy, he loved the car since 1992, and was sad to see it go. But I think I've shown him I was an enthusiast and he was happy to let the rex go.
So 400 miles north, the rx performed perfectly... hopfully I can keep it for the next 20 years in as good a condition as it is now
So thats my brief intro and hello hope I havent bored you all!!! Heres some photos, sorry the first gen photos arnt great, weve not had much time together yet...

Its great to see this car has gone to a good home, I've owned mine since '89 so you have some catching up to do, as you know you have probably got the buy of a lifetime there so good luck to you. I hope you enjoy this one as much as I have mine.

Hi Richard,
a warm welcome to the forum
.................. rex-o-holic's are always welcome here!
You've got one of the 1st gen bargains of recent years there...... we've been watching that car for the last 2 years wondering where it would end up but never thought it would eventually sell for such a cheap price, glad it's gone to a true enthusiast.
cheers,
Ian

Welcome along, good score there! That FB looks pretty minty
No, not just the colour. I have to say, I'm rarely much of an admirer of FCs but your old 'vert looks pretty damn cool. Those BBS stylee wheels really suit
Re: new Scottish member
I do not remember ever seeing that beutiful mint green over here in Canada.
Love the look of this car. Enjoy.

When in doubt....hit the gas.

Hi
Thanks for all the great comments
I cant take credit for the cars condition, thats all down to keith! But theres a few things needing done, once there sorted then maybe I can, or when Ive owned the car for 20+ years like A7RXY
which is an impressive feat! Glad to see they never get boring
Never realised the car was so watched over the last year or so! And im surprised no one bought it before either! ! Surprised and glad because that means I get the enjoyment of owning it now
wishy, yeah im from glasgow, not sure if im reading your user name right, but is that a clue to your location??
good luck with your wedding! Itll be the greatest day of your life
im just gutted I didnt have my rx for the wedding photos!
Minty, I loved the FC its a really good car, rare, reliable and fast enough! I like to keep the rx's as factory as possible and the bbs wheels are standard... but I think there bang on
shame I sold it, bit ive got first dibs on buying it back when the new owner wants to move it on again
MSwann, thanks for the colour comment, as odd as it sounds ive seen quite a few in the uk this colour ovwr the years, but recently I cant find any photos of them...aybe a dying breed??

Re: new Scottish member
Hi
not sure whether making a new post would be better, but I was looking to find out how the fb should drive, or more specifically how a standard series 3 should rev... after a quick chat via pm with another member he commented how much he loves the kick in the top half of the rev range.
So onto my s3... it revs through the to 7,000rpm smooth, no drama, no fuss. Which I thought would be just the way it was meant to rev.. seems to get to 80-90 easy enough. But theres no obvious kick. Im not sure if my carbs need some work, or if its all good.
Mileage is 91,000 all standard, but possibly with a slight blow in the exhaust about the drivers door area, though hardly noticeable. I did expext it to be a tad quicker, not hugely, just a tad and I think this is possibly what its missing???
Any thoughts??
Rich
