msd ignition blaster 2 hi power performance ignition coils
hi guys anyone know if they r compatible with my S3? & do I buy them with or without the ballast resistor? cheers mick

Hi Mick
I am running a pair of these without any resistors on an electronic dizzy and have had no issues. Car starts great and really pulls nicely compared to the factory coils and points dizzy that mine had before.
Also fitted a relay to pull power direct from the battery for maximum spark, nice simple mods but seems to do the trick.

Early S2 electronic dizzy. But with that said, I am running remote ignitors as finding the required ignitors in SA was a problem so we made a plan and changed to a remote setup which also provided the first step towards a direct fire setup.
As far as I know if you running J109s you should be all good without the resistors, not 100% sure about the J105s though....

Hi m8 mine r the original 1985 S3 HEI coils with electronic pick ups ive been told by rx motors! Cheers mickGhostkls wrote:Early S2 electronic dizzy. All the cars I have seen here that have electronic dizzy have removed the resistors and besides that are running stock ignition systems except for some running aftermarket coils.

So, is there a definitive answer to this one? I've been meaning to replace the (now 30 year-old) coils on mine, so can I just get the MSD Blaster 2 coils and fit them with no ballast resistors and they'll just work fine? I don't understand electrics, so all these whizz-bang magic boxes confusle me mightily

I replaced my leading coil with one of the high vibration Msd coils last weekend. It started up fine but I haven't been able to get it out for a test drive since so can't give a thorough recommendation yet. I went for the high vibration coil because they can be located in the stock coil position without fear of leaking.

Like I said previously, I am running an electronic dizzy with 2 MSD blaster 2 coils and no resistors and the car runs and starts great! Using BR8EQ NGK plugs and so far plugs seem to be burning cleaner than before.
You can see the start up clip of my car on my build thread.

Re: msd ignition blaster 2 hi power performance ignition co
Good news. It was the talk of direct-wiring the coils via a relay from the battery that upset me
That part might as well have been written in Martian! I think all the Blaster coils are oil-filled to protect against vibration aren't they?
Do they have a universal connector for the HT leads, or is there a specific flavour I'd need to be ordering?
