Elford lives down under

Hi all
I have just joined this forum as it seems to be the most informative for the Elford Turbo, I am originally from North Wales but moved to Melbourne 7 years ago, I currently have an 1982 Elford Turbo which is believed to be the only one in Australia, it was originally registered to a Dr Radcliffe and the registration was DBH897X, Silver in colour and the last recorded mileage was 79000 miles in 1989, the previous owner bought it in 1990 when working in the UK and when he came to Aus he couldn't part with it and brought it over, it wouldn't pass the Australian compliance as it was a little rusty ! So the owner got a 1982 RX7 and transferred all the running gear over, so now I have A/C as well. I bought it as seen under a tarp after being there for 3 years and recommisioned it and used it for 2 years covering approx. 20000 Kms, it has been off the road for 4 years and is now nearly ready for use again after doing some modifications about which I will cover later, I will attach some photos next time time, I also have all the original typed Elford Instalation instructions and tuning info plus lots of test drive copies from the motoring magazines at the time if anyone would like a copy.

I hope we can help each other out with any info regarding the Elford Turbo.
Cheers
Ian :D

Thanks for that Ian. I've noted it now on my register of UK 1st Gen cars.
I have a section to log any cars which were originally registered here and which have since gone overseas.

North Wales Hmmm....I once lost a quiz in the Deganwy Castle because I was 10 seconds out in my calculation of how long light takes to reach us from the sun. I protested that it varied in nature by more than that anyway but the quizmaster slapped me down. Ah ....many memories of that lovely area around Conwy.

Codge.

Great to see an Elford down under Ian, and still with its front spoiler as well.... I notice that the turbo cover has a red label, I've never seen one before, all the turbo labels I've ever seen are blue. The engine looks very clean, the car seems like it's been well lokked after.... nice one!

Hi guys
Thanks for the comments, it is a leather interior and in pretty good condition all round although a respray would do it justice when I can afford it !! I still have the Elford rear spoiler which has just been resprayed along with the rear bumper so when I get it moved around it the garage I will refit them, the turbo -turbo- is a recon unit when it was in the uk thats probably why the label is red, I have the original receipts and mot's which shows it had done 79000miles in 1989, the previous owner can't remember how many miles he covered but thinks 15000 ish, I have covered 15000kms since I bought it and the engine is still original, the wheels are 15 inch compomotive fh which came with the car from the UK, I have just modified the turbo oil return into the front cover as I was getting blow back through the breather when on boost an a lot of smoke from the exhaust, which I think was the oil getting past the seals in the turbo as it was not returning to the sump quick enough, I haven't been out for a run yet but now I have no breather problems as yet ! The electric cooling fan I have just fitted works with both the engine temp and when the A/C is on as the A/C wasn't cold enough when staionary and the viscous fan was only engaged if the engine was hot, the fan works great in the garage and keeps the engine temp just right, I have just bought a fast idle solenoid to assist when the A/C comes on when idling, it nearly stalls the engine with the load, so will be fitting that soon !, also bought a remote central locking kit from the UK, Rightclick is the company and it seems to be the best kit I have seen on the market as it comes with a new flip out key fob and separate remote boot release, I will keep you posted as things progress.
Thanks again for the comments, must go now as its beer o clock in Melbourne !! 0-0
By the way my original trade was a motor vehicle technician, mainly heavy vehicles but love tinkering !!
