Hi everyone,
I am nearing the end of the strip down of my 79 SA and to cheer myself up I have been looking at new shiny bits and am looking for reviews on suspension. I understand that coilies aren't really that readily available for the fb and in any case the original shocks are up to the job, especially when mated to a set of decent lowering springs such as racing beats.
My question is has anyone replaced the original KYBs with like for like or should I look else where? Rock auto do front and rears for a resonable price so thinking of taking the plunge hey and ordering a set along with new clutch slave etc.
I already have a new complete set of bushes to go the car once I have done an Ian esc resto of the suspension components (por15 galore) so should all work pretty well together hey?
Any info greatly received
Simon

Re: KYB shocks
Hi Simon
Your two options for KYB OE spec rear shocks are Exel G http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/REAR-Shock-Ab ... 1e66e0b6e8
and Gas A just http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/REAR-Shock-Ab ... 20bcb6ee20
Not much difference between the two in terms of performance. I have the latter on mine and they are fine with -35mm lowered springs.
I have Exel G on the front. Once again, well up to the job. They may require extra packing between the shock body and top nut due to the absence of a spacer which should be in the fitting kit but mysteriously is missing (see Lucky's thread, Pg 14) viewtopic.php?f=4&t=337&start=130#p6242

Hope some of this helps

Re: KYB shocks
Be careful what you are getting as the strut lengths on the S1 are different to the S2 & 3. Rock Auto are good guys but be prepared to take one for the team through customs.

Re: KYB shocks
Custom springs man, or Eibach.
Have not met one person happy with the ride height from RB lowered springs.
KONI adjustables are the preferred shocks, if you can find them.

Re: KYB shocks
Yeah, pretty much what they said, lol.
KYB shocks are great once fitted, transofrmed my saggy old suspension. But be prepared for fitting niggles and their after-sales "service" massively sucks
Racing Beat springs are beautifully finished and have a spot-on rate for the car, but don't give anywhere near enough of a drop. Depends if you're happy with performance and looks come a distant second, in which case I can't fault the setup

Re: KYB shocks
I would go with Konis - $22.96 ea

The same outfit can do you a clutch slave.
For springs - custom made or superlow Kings from Aus.

Re: KYB shocks
Thanks for the info chaps I appreciate it. I will try and get the konis if possible and custom springs to lower it right.
