1983 Series 2 RX7 for Sale £1400.

Time to sell my Series 2 RX7. The car has done 55760 miles. Electric windows and fuel release work etc all work. The radio doesn't go
as I have removed the aerial, and the fuel gauge sender doesn't work. I removed the awful rear spongy spolier and plugged the holes with grommets. A good tidy RX7.

In the 18 months i've owned it I have:

- put a new exhaust on it including a stainless steel back box and midpipe.
- Chassis rust plated
- The car will come with a new MOT.

Also forgot to add that:
- replaced S2 engine with a S3 engine
- replaced leaking S2 front oil cooler with a S3 beehive oil cooler

Will add more things as I remember them!

nice car dude, did it come with the series 3 front as notice the slots for cooling the front brakes, they were for the series 3 i think.

i have a friend who got his fuel tank taken out, split, cleaned, painted and then put together again.
however he says the fuel gauge has stopped working and it worked before.

what would cause the gauge to stop working, the fuel lines etc where all reconnected etc, is the fuel level float delicate
and can easily break?

he was also saying even though the car is full of petrol, starts ok hot and cold and driving ok, it sometimes bogs down
as if the fuel is getting cut off and was wondering if the fuel gauge is staying at the empty mark, is there something in
the ecu that would make the car think its ran outta fuel somehow?

hope it doesn't sound daft and you don't mind me asking but could the fuel gauge not working, cause the fuel cutting out problem?

thanks

Yeah the fuel float is normally the problem. Mine goes up to full when fuel is put in, but it reads 1/2 full when empty.

Shame the guage isnt stuck on full, he'd never have to fill up ever again ;)

I changed my tank and the gauge stopped working.....quite sensitive to being disturbed I think. I drive around by calculation now 25/30 litres is about 150 miles. So I keep topping the tank every 150. Easy if you're low mileage driver. More difficult if you've a daily driver.

I'm sure there's no link from guage to the ECH spod.....there wouldn't be anything to control as the fuel is on a pressure rail (I think excess is returned to the tank to hold the pressure at the carb steady).

When you say it bogs down Spod, the fuel filter being clogged can suddenly bring the car to a crawl from 70/80 mph on the motorway. For me that's once been the first warning.....you tiddle along, drawing a bit of fuel......down a flat motorway getting speed up, ...a bit more fuel.......hit an incline at speed when suddenly it's max fuel time and 'cough' cough', she'll start to come to a crawl with no fuel.

I've only ever owned 1 RX7 with a working fuel gauge  So i'm used to working the fuel out. This gauge seems repairable it moves up and down, but I never got around to it fixing it.

Regularly changed fuel filters are key to these cars running well.

Its a great little car and I hope it goes to a fellow enthusiast. 8-)
