Daytona RX7

Post by rozrx »

Hi my names Allan and I have owned my Daytona RX7 close to 20 years it has gone through 2 major rebuilds and is nearing completion of the 2nd one. For those that don't know what a Daytona RX7 was I'll post up a few pics that will help explain what the hell it is. Far as I know the kit was only produced and available in Australia and maybe NZ.

So hopefully that paints the picture of what it actually is.

Here's a few pics of how my car started life when I first purchased it and then the transformation through out the years.

after maybe 3-4 years of enjoying the RX7 the body started to show signs of age. The fibreglass body- kit had some hairline cracks appearing. Not sure if this was a result of the 13B turbo power now in the engine bay or just being 20 years old.
Also the paintjob had a lot of stone chips around the front end, so it was decided to take it off the road, re-design the rear guards, brake upgrade, driveline upgrade, interior upgrade.

In your top picture post I thought it looked a bit Porsche 944-ish. But here;

scored a nice leather mazda momo steering wheel off ebay :D

dash sent to be re-skinned as it had some large cracks
Image

few weeks later the dash is picked up and looks better than new, couldnt wait to throw it back in. some series 5 rx7 seats fit and look right at home.
some gauges have been bought and some holes are cut in the dash in preparation. starting to look like a car interior now
Image

custom wheels are made up for the front. the rears were made while the car was being painted.
wheels - 5 stud GMH Holden Steel Interceptors. Centres were pressed out and hit with gloss black. 10 & 8 inch chrome dish rims were ordered from the States. Wheel company welds in painted centers as to my offset requirements.
they look really nice.

rear diff is a borg warner cut down running 28spline axles. 4.1 mini spool. saved up and purchased a rebuilt LSD and got a mate to assist in throwing it in.
