great thread and pics as usual Nik....
it's a f***ing sad state of affairs when your opening paragraph needs to be a disclaimer to the worlds professional 'offence takers'.... saddos who always seem to get the hump or take offence where non was ever implied or intended in the first place.
After you have taken your time and effort to shoot the photos, upload and link them and write the thread, you shouldn't be worrying about these people.... if they don't like the thread, they're free to f*** off somewhere else that will pander to their sensitivities...........................................................

just my take on it :)

You obviously haven't spent much time on Retro Rides lately, Ian? I got a pointedly different response to the same thread on there as on the other three forums I posted it on. It's either write a completely different one just for them and their pathetically contrived "be nice to everyone...OR ELSE!" mission statement, or put in the disclaimer and then field a load of semi-irate comments. Such as "I spent ages changing a CV boot so I could get my completely-stock-except-the-(BMW)-wheels-2006-BMW to the show, how dare you be rude about it!?". And of course, you aren't allowed to answer "does that make it retro, then?"

Personally speaking, if a car's appalling or completely out of theme, I don't see why it's so awful to say so. That modern estate that Dave photographed is a case in point; fitting wheels too big for the car, angle grinding the arches out and then pop-rivetting sheets of ally over the gap is not cool or scene or chic or anything even remotely admirable. It's simply crap and ought to be treated with the contempt it deserves IMHO. I felt guilty having to take the FD even though it's now 21 years old, cos I don't think "age" is the same as "retro". But then when you see things like a brand new VW Up on the RETRO Rides stand, of all places, you start to wonder what the bloody point is :? Yeah, it's got ironic graphics on it, and yeah, maybe people sometimes have to rely on their daily driver, but why is it not in the car park rather than on the stand? I don't get it, and I bet they wouldn't let one of us outsiders park our RX-8, for example, on our stand at the Gathering...

i was wondering why you had that at the start, was scratching my head wondering had someone taken offence
on here at it. then i was wondering what was offending with a number of snaps of cars... didn't know you had posted
the thread on a few other sites.

i find your photos really interesting and fun to read your comments as its called having a personality lol.

as ian says it is a sad state when you have to add such a thing to your thread, but the way of the world has
you that way. unfortunately beauty is in the eye of the beholder, i have brought my rx8 to car shows to see people
slag it off looking round it and others wanting pics taken by family/friends standing between the rear and front doors
with the way the rears open, basically cause they find it cool lol.

but great pics, really good to see. always enjoy the shows you go to and the time you take putting them all together
can't be easy trying to take them without people walking in front of you and mind the kids and have a family day out etc.

i for one say thanks for sharing. :)
